The seasoning procedure is simple and only needs to be done once. To season your cast iron dutch oven, first cover the insides with a thin layer of oil, such as vegetable oil or canola oil. Next, place the dutch oven upside down in the center of your kitchen oven. Leave it at 375 degrees for about an hour, then repeat the process after it has cooled enough for your to oil again. After a second baking, the dutch oven is ready for a final layer of oil. Now your dutch oven is seasoned and ready for camp cooking dutch oven recipes. An aluminum dutch oven will not need to be seasoned before cooking up some campfire food.
